kniha je zaujímavá z hľadiska opisu zdôvodnenia úspešnosti rôznych náboženstiev v dejinách- nové náboženstvo zvyšuje morálku cez akúsi schopnosť morálnej predstavivosti, ktorú sme si vyvinuli, je to zrejme schopnosť altruizmu, súcitu, a pod, vďaka ktorej hráme hry s nenulovým súčtom, a nové náboženstvo má rozširovať okruh ľudí, s ktorými sme ich ochotní hrať - teória ale pritiahnutá za vlasy- typický bias darwinistov, ktorých nepustí vlastný naratív- napr. "Wright’s reliance on game theory and evolutionary psychology is troubling for another reason. These theories, particularly when taken together, are so pliant that they can explain almost anything. One consequence is that Wright’s readings of the Hebrew Bible, New Testament, or Koran sometimes degenerate into clever attempts to explain each passage as a response to specific local circumstances. Take his explanation of why Paul was so big on brotherly love. Paul, usually absent from any given church, needed to encourage harmony within and among his many fractious congregations; hence his epistles extolling brotherly love (what Wright calls “a form of remote control”). But Wright’s hypothesis doesn’t work. liberalizmus by sa dal v tomto zmysle chápať nie ako predel, ale pokračovanie rozširovania morálneho kruhu- nie darmo bol Boh garantom prác teoretikov spoločenskej zmluvy; keby som si mal vsadiť, tak skôr si podám na to, že globálnu vládu zjednotí skôr nové náboženstvo, ako rozum reprezentovaný vedou a technológiami; liberalizmus v dnešnej podobe, sa zdá, to nebude, lebo skôr ako spája, spoločnosť rozleptáva- masy preferujú istoty, poriadok, životný plán, pred otvorenou slobodnou voľbou; možno to bude ako v houellebecqovej novej knihe, kde francúzsko zmení moslimská strana, konzervatívna, no tolerantná- avšak s direktívami života, ktoré vracajú strateným masám zmysel do života.)
