Bolo by to zvladnutelne nocnym vlakom, no tie su uz nejaky cas zrusene. Dear Ms, The Citizens' Enquiries Unit of the European Parliament has received your message of 1 October regarding the promotion of rail travel in the European Union. We have read your message attentively and noted its contents. The European Union has been promoting rail transport through a number of ways in past decades, among other things by developing rail transport infrastructure, as part of the Trans-European Transport Network. For more information on the EU rail policy, you can visit the website of the European Commission. For more details about the development of high-speed rail in the EU, you can read a 2015 publication by the European Parliamentary Research Service on the topic. The European Union is also supporting research and innovation in the rail sector. Regarding night trains in particular, the offer has been drastically reduced in the European Union as a result of a decline in passengers since 2010. A study prepared for the Transport Committee of the European Parliament analyses the reasons for this decline and issues recommendations for the future. Please note that the Austrian rail company ÖBB has recently reopened a number of night train lines. For more information, you can visit their dedicated website. If you wish, you can contact the Members of the European Parliament of your choice to discuss these matters. You can find the contact details of Members through the following link: http://www.europarl.europa.eu/meps/en/search.html. We hope this will be of use and we thank you for having contacted the European Parliament.
