Nový kompresní algoritmus TurboQuant snižuje paměťovou náročnost LLM 6×

Google zveřejnil kompresní algoritmus TurboQuant, který zmenšuje paměťovou náročnost velkých jazykových modelů (LLM) a zároveň zvyšuje jejich rychlost. TurboQuant pracuje na vyrovnávací paměti KV, což je právě úzké hrdlo LLM. Abyste ušetřili paměť, můžete jednoduše snížit přesnost datových typů v KV, ale to může přinést horší kvalitu odpovědí.
TurboQuant funguje zhruba jako kvantizace při ztrátové kompresi JPEG. Obrázek je výrazně menší, avšak je stále podobný originálu. V tomto srovnání je zmiňované snížení přesnosti datových typů jako zmenšení hloubky barev. Takových kvantizací pro KV LLM existuje více (SnapKV, PyramidKV, KIVI), ale TurboQuant zachovává kvalitu odpovědí LLM LLaMa a Mistral téměř původní, přitom vyrovnávací paměť KV je 6× menší a rychlost 8× vyšší. Nedávno som požiadal umelú inteligenciu Claude, aby mi pomohla premyslieť štruktúru mojej ďalšej knihy. Slabé miesto som už poznal – chcel som len vidieť, čo navrhne. Odpoveď ma ohromila. Claude nielen správne identifikoval problém, ale navrhol aj riešenie pomocou myšlienky z článku, ktorý som publikoval pred viac ako desiatimi rokmi. Inými slovami, objavil v mojom vlastnom texte niečo, čo mi samotnému nenapadlo.

Claude však odpovedal desať minút. Desať minút bežali klastre grafických procesorov (GPU), ktoré spotrebúvajú energiu ako menší byt, aby vytvorili reťazce úvah, ktoré žiadny človek nikdy neuvidí – všetko kvôli úprave osnovy.

Výsledok stál za každý cent z môjho stodolárového mesačného predplatného. Robím to desiatky ráz denne. Neviem presne, koľko peňazí na mne Anthropic prerába – ale je to veľa.

Najzraniteľnejšie firmy
Anthropic nedávno získal 30 miliárd dolárov pri trhovej hodnote firmy 380 miliárd. OpenAI, ktorá v poslednom kole získala 40 miliárd, sa snaží získať ďalších sto. S používateľmi ako ja ich budú potrebovať. Investori v nich vidia najdôležitejšie firmy sveta. Ja vidím tie najzraniteľnejšie.

Môj dlhoročný priateľ a mentor Clayton Christensen strávil kariéru vysvetľovaním prečo. Úspešné firmy zlepšujú svoje produkty rýchlejšie, než väčšina zákazníkov potrebuje. Ich nákladové štruktúry sú nastavené na obsluhu najnáročnejších klientov. A potom ich „zospodu“ prevalcujú lacnejšie alternatívy, ktoré uspokoja všetkých ostatných. Stalo sa to pri pevných diskoch aj pri bagroch.

Najlepšie firmy nezlyhali preto, že robili chyby, ale preto, že robili všetko správne.

Firmy na čele vývoja umelej inteligencie budujú presne takú nákladovú štruktúru, pred akou Christensen varoval – v rozsahu, aký si ani on nevedel predstaviť. Žiadne firmy v dejinách kapitalizmu neplatili zamestnancov tak ako tieto.

Meta ponúkla výskumníkom v oblasti AI balíčky v hodnote 200 miliónov dolárov. OpenAI v roku 2025 minula šesť miliárd dolárov na akciové odmeny – takmer polovicu svojich príjmov. Pri väčšine technologických firiem pred vstupom na burzu je to približne šesť percent.

A to sú len platy. Samotná OpenAI prisľúbila investovať 1,4 bilióna dolárov do dátových centier v nasledujúcich rokoch, najmä do GPU klastrov, ktoré sa odpisujú rýchlejšie než takmer akýkoľvek iný kapitálový majetok.

Výsledok? OpenAI očakáva stratu 14 miliárd dolárov v roku 2026 a kumulatívnu stratu 115 miliárd do roku 2029. To sa nedá jednoducho zvrátiť. Platy nemožno znížiť bez straty kľúčových výskumníkov. GPU strácajú hodnotu bez ohľadu na to, či prinášajú výnos.

Hlad rastie
Tu je pasca: AI firmy účtujú podľa tokenov – základných jednotiek textu, ktoré model spracúva. Podľa jednej štúdie náklady na token pri rovnakom výkone klesajú päť- až desaťnásobne ročne. Znie to ako spása. Lenže modely na špici vývoja nie sú len múdrejšie. Sú aj „hladnejšie“.

Takzvané „reasoning“ modely – dnes hlavný spôsob zlepšovania výkonu veľkých jazykových modelov – generujú obrovské výpočtové reťazce ešte predtým, než vydajú odpoveď. S rastúcim výkonom tieto reťazce spotrebúvajú exponenciálne viac tokenov.

OpenAI oznámila, že v roku 2025 sa spotreba tokenov jej zákazníkov zvýšila 320-násobne. Tá istá štúdia zistila, že rastúci dopyt po „uvažovacích“ tokenoch úplne pohltí úspory z klesajúcich cien. Každá jednotka inteligencie je lacnejšia – ale celkovo inteligencia ešte nikdy nestála viac.

Vidím to aj na sebe. Úlohy, ktoré dnes zadávam Claudeovi, by boli pred rokom nemysliteľné. Každá z nich je lacnejšia na token. Používam však desaťnásobne viac tokenov.

To isté sa deje v celom odvetví. Softvérová firma Notion uviedla, že náklady na AI jej ukrojili 10 percent zo ziskových marží – a pritom nevyužíva modely na samotnej hranici vývoja. Ponúka len sumarizáciu a vyhľadávanie.

GitHub Copilot od Microsoftu údajne strácal viac ako 20 dolárov mesačne na používateľa, pričom účtoval 10 dolárov. Ak základné AI funkcie znižujú marže a populárne nástroje prerábajú na každom zákazníkovi, firmy posúvajúce hranice vývoja sú na tom ešte horšie.

Firmy na špici nedokážu konkurovať
Pre niekoho, kto predáva minuloročný model, však môže byť ekonomika skvelá. Včerajšia špička je dnešnou komoditou – a komoditní poskytovatelia nenesú náklady posúvania hraníc. Môžu ponúknuť rovnakú schopnosť za zlomok ceny. Firmy na špici im nedokážu konkurovať bez urýchlenia vlastných strát. A ani nechcú. Ich stratégia spočíva v ďalšom zvyšovaní schopností, teda v sústredení sa na najnáročnejších zákazníkov a ignorovaní zvyšku.

Nie je to chyba. Je to pasca.

Vidno to v priamom prenose. OpenAI nedávno vyradila model GPT-4o. Už vlani v auguste sa ho pokúsila zrušiť, no po vzbure používateľov cúvla. Preferovali totiž „teplejší“ a konverzačnejší štýl staršieho modelu pred vyššími schopnosťami GPT-5.

Keď ho definitívne odstavili, vznikli komunity, ktoré ho oplakávali. Používatelia hrozili zrušením predplatného a vytvárali memy o škrečkoch podpaľujúcich OpenAI (priznávam, tomuto nerozumiem).

Len 0,1 percenta z 800 miliónov používateľov ChatGPT si denne vyberalo GPT-4o. To je 800-tisíc ľudí – zaokrúhľovacia chyba pre OpenAI, ale stredne veľké mesto zákazníkov, ktorí firme hovorili, že nechcú viac inteligencie. Chceli chatbota, ktorý pôsobí ako priateľ. Špička ich „prestrelila“ – a oni to vedeli, aj keď OpenAI nie.

Širšie dáta to potvrdzujú. Správa RAND spomína, že čínske modely fungujú pri šestinových až štvrtinových nákladoch oproti porovnateľným americkým systémom. Výkonnostná medzera medzi open-source a proprietárnymi modelmi sa na štandardnom benchmarku za jediný rok znížila z osem percent na 1,7 percenta. DeepSeek oceňuje svoje API približne o 90 percent lacnejšie než porovnateľné ponuky OpenAI.

Lacnejšie alternatívy získavajú zákazníkov, ktorých špičkové firmy nikdy nedokázali obslúžiť ziskovo. Nový narušiteľ bez 200-miliónových výskumníckych platov môže obslúžiť rovnakého používateľa za zlomok ceny a ešte na tom zarobiť.

Špičkové firmy zostanú s najnáročnejšími klientmi a najvyššími nákladmi. V Christensenových príkladoch s pevnými diskami trvalo roky, kým sa komodita priblížila špičke. V AI je to otázka mesiacov.

Najlepšou obranou špičkových firiem je zotrvačnosť. Firmy, ktoré postavili svoje pracovné postupy na API konkrétneho poskytovateľa, čelia reálnym nákladom pri zmene. Tieto prekážky sa však každým štvrťrokom znižujú, keď open-source alternatívy uľahčujú prechod. Aj v Christensenových prípadoch zotrvačnosť oddialila narušenie – nikdy mu však nezabránila.

Namietnuť možno, že inteligencia nie je pevný disk. Možno neexistuje strop užitočnej schopnosti a najnáročnejších zákazníkov nemožno „prestrelovať“. Christensenova teória však nepotrebuje univerzálny strop. Stačí, aby tempo zlepšovania presiahlo potreby časti zákazníkov – a aby títo zákazníci tvorili väčšinu trhu. Osemstotisíc používateľov, ktorí sa držali GPT-4o, netvrdilo, že AI sa prestala zlepšovať. Hovorili, že ďalší prírastok im nestojí za to.

Christensenova teória má svoje limity. Historička Jill Leporeová upozornila, že niektoré firmy, ktoré mali byť narušené, sa prispôsobili a prežili. Žiadna spoločenskovedná teória nefunguje vždy a všade. No nákladové štruktúry sú tu extrémne, oneskorenie medzi špičkou a komoditou sa meria mesiacmi a životaschopné lacné alternatívy už existujú vo veľkom meradle. Ak sa teória má niekde uplatniť, tak tu.

Samozrejme, nič z toho neplatí, ak niektorá z týchto firiem skutočne vytvorí kybernetického boha. Christensenova teória opisuje postupnú a prírastkovú inováciu.

AGI by bol niečím celkom iným – skokom s inými ekonomickými pravidlami. To treba brať vážne, a práve preto sú problémy tejto vízie dôležité. Ak AGI nepríde, rámec rozvratu platí naplno. Ak príde, tradičná ekonomika môže prestať platiť – alebo sa hodnota rozdelí medzi firmy, ktoré na to minuli stovky miliárd.

Firmy, ktoré dnes míňajú najviac na posúvanie AI dopredu, môžu byť paradoxne najmenej pravdepodobnými víťazmi. Christensen by ten vzorec spoznal. Ja som ten náročný zákazník, kvôli ktorému tieto firmy míňajú miliardy.

Tí, ktorých ignorujú, budú napokon ziskoví – len nie pre firmy, ktoré to celé umožnili. Ak špičkové laboratóriá a ich investori vytvárajú technológie, na ktorých budú zarábať iní, možno práve sledujeme najväčší akt nedobrovoľnej filantropie v dejinách.

Skúsila som to včera 1.krát osloviť a popýtať o nejaké rady ohľadne knihy, ktorú sa už dlhšie snažím písať (vrátane napr existujúcich podobných kníh a ich predajnosti, platforiem pre ebooky,atď), potom som mu "skrmila" dve stránky mojho textu na pripomienky a opravy - vo výsledku mi to prišlo vcelku užitočné a aj ma to dosť prekvapilo, čo všetko vie.
Guglila som si už chvíľu názory ľudí na quore a reddite atď na temu,či môže ukradnúť content,no zaujímal by ma názor kybca komunity :)

From Benevolence to Nature: Moral Ordinals, Axiometry and Alignment of Values in Small Instruct Language Models

Abstract: This article first presents a high-level, language-based method for axiometric exploration of moral value representations infused in diverse small language models. The method is based around the idea of ``moral ordinals'' - a list of items from a value lexicon which the model is prompted to sort according to its own intrinsic ``morality'' criterion. After presenting the method, the lexicon based on Schwartz's ``basic value theory'' is used to explore dominance of different values representations in 6 small (<4 milliard parameter) language models. For most of models, ``benevolence'' is consistently ranked at highest position and there is no statistically significant difference between rankings obtained at minimal and default inference temperatures. Across all models, the distribution of aggregate moral-ranking scores was well approximated by a Beta distribution (K–S $p > 0.3$), revealing consistent yet model-specific patterns of moral weighting. Subsequently, foundational models are subjected to a sort of ``minimalist alignment'' whereby they undergo 7 epochs of performance-efficient fine-tuning with synthetically generated 80-instruction codex directed towards sustainability and nature protection. Finally, such minimally aligned models are explored once again with the ``moral ordinals'' method, providing insights into axiological drift induced by the mini-alignment process.
