In case you hadn’t noticed, Blawan has drums. Drums for days. The drums on ‘Fram’, his debut single released last year on Hessle Audio, sounded like boulders tumbling down mountains, and stood out even on a label renowned for percussion.

The drums on his dance tracks probably sound so good because he’s a real-life drummer, but as FACT’s Andrew Ryce observed in his review of Blawan’s recent Bohla EP, perhaps the highlight so far of the UK underground’s recent fascination with acid house, you wouldn’t need to be told that to figure it out from his tunes. “Built from rambunctious, elastic rhythm tracks that whip, snap, and crash in all directions, they always land in a wonderfully satisfying thud even if not always in the exact place you’d expect” pretty much sums it up.

uff, na twitteri sa da flejmovat? dobre, ze tam nie som :) ale kazdopadne komenty tohto typu su k tomuto mixu aj na soundcloude a na samotnom factmagu. pochopitelne, ludia si na tracklisty zvykli ako neoddelitelnu sucast mixov.

Fact: I’ve started to like it a lot when people don’t give tracklists for their mixes.

“Well we [Hessle] used to provide tracklists for everything, but we just kind of stopped. There’s been a lot of people nicking other people’s selections… not so much me, but like Ben [UFO], who’s not a producer, his pure appeal is in his selection, and he’s put a lot of hours, and sweat, and love into finding these records, only so someone can read his tracklists, and buy them in five minutes on Discogs… I mean why does he have to give a tracklist? If you ask Ben what a track is, most of the time he’ll tell you anyway. But again, we’re all guilty of it – if we see a mix with no tracklist, we’re less likely to download it. But then again, as soon as you see the tracklist, is there any point in downloading it? You already know how it’s going to sound. So yeah… I think mystery, mystery is good.”
