In this time, the idea and structure for the label Purpose Maker was formed. - A Yamaha DX100 keyboard was used to create the “Bells” sound. A Roland TR-909 Drum Machine for percussion. - Only one version of “The Bells” exist, it took roughly 3 hours to create and 5 minutes to mix the final version. - Jeff Mills exclusively played “The Bells” via a 13 gold copper disc for 12 months before considering an official release the spring of 1996. The deciding factor to go to release was due to an overwhelming reaction from an audience during a large party in Belgium. - “The Bells” has been used for weddings and high schools graduations. - Axis Records discovers approximately 4.5 unauthorised remixes of “The Bells” each year. - Largest one-time audience of “The Bells”: 18,000+ people - 50 promo copies were made of PM-002 “Kat Moda” EP. Blank sample copies were the preselected color of electric blue. These 50 copies have a higher and more robust sound level than the official copy that is being released today. - Whenever played, it takes roughly . 37 seconds for any audience to react to the sound of it. - As an anthem, “The Bells” has played a lead role in world-wide acclaimed events such as: Sonar Multi-Media Festival/Spain, Lost/UK, Wire/Japan, Mayday/Germany, I LOVE TECHNO/Belgium and the list goes on and on. - “The Bells” video was created and shot in Barcelona, Spain in the fall of 1998 and was never officially aired and/or programmed on any video channel and rarely seen by the viewing public. - “The Bells” has become one of the most played Techno records in history.
