‘You Were Hurt, Right?’: Framing and Reframing in the Semi-Institutional Setting of The People’s Court Abstract: The aim of this paper is to identify and classify the instances of ‘framing’ and ‘reframing’ practices in a particular ‘case’ taken from an episode of the American courtroom reality show The People’s Court, and to interpret them in terms of their institutional and conversational functions with special emphasis on ‘confrontation talk framing’. Some systematic relationships between their various roles on one hand and their type and form on the other shall be proposed. For this end, the study combines the approaches of Critical Discourse Analysis and Conversation Analysis. To account for framing and reframing in the context of interlacing of private and public discourses, it draws on CDA concepts such as ‘interdiscursivity’ and ‘conversationalization’, but these are integrated with the conversation-analytic methodology in order to adequately represent the ‘semi-institutional’ character of the discourse in question. dokument (.doc) info o použitom analytickom SW k dispozícii je aj transkript a analyzovaný video materiál v .mpg |
