The importance of new technologies for contemporary Hollywood cinema.

Let me begun with the question raised by the subject: „What is the purpose of film? “
Is that the appeal on ethics of audience, or „just“ an entertainment?
The progress is one unstoppable thing that doesn’t need necessarily to be positive at the time it’s happening (if we are talking in terms quantity vs. quality) but mostly it is something what brings results for the future as positive side effect). For example if we didn’t have militaries we wouldn’t probably have any material for space scientist to work with.
Since the late 1950`s, the cinematographic industry has been slowly evolving into the large cultural influence as it is today. New technologies and television together with new way of marketing films in the 1970`s allow the filmmakers to mass-produce and show their films worldwide, which increased profits and larged the productions.
This as many aspects before has affected the film in many ways.
First and probably major for the industry - the commercial element. Producers must be looking mainly after the profit connected with the needs of the audience and sponsors, which was sometimes blocking the art aspect of the film. Major motion pictures become to make many professional cliché films. The story is made to make the money and it’s sometimes almost overtaken by special effects or cost of the film (Blockbuster). There’s almost nothing left for audience’s imagination.
On the other hand (if we didn’t have militaries we wouldn’t probably have any material for space scientist to work with;-) the larger audience is the larger scale of viewers became. Not everyone is satisfied by giant Hollywood production and the fact that the technology necessary has been available have allowed small independent filmmakers to realise theirs projects, which brought the diversity and excitement for more critical audience. This created some sort of compromise way of making the films. We can’t say that the films like Twelve Monkeys, or Fight Club were the ones, which dominated the box offices, but there was obviously something what satisfied both – the entertainment and the ethical parts in more or less same major hollywood film formula.
Talking about technology we have to mention sci-fi genre from the first page of film book mainly Star Wars, The Alien, The Terminator or almost recent The Matrix – as the presenentations of how far we can go nowadays. These films are bringing the question of the boundaries in the new technologies and in harmonic cooperation between producers and that sensitive thin line of art element.
Despite the fact that today’s major production is already bringing the remakes of old classics or trying to make a superformula films (Kill Bill), where is very strong appeal to a detail film is where we can join most of the art departments what makes it also one of the last entertaining industries, which are not in strong invention crisis because of it’s limits and the technology with all its aspects brings needed progress.
