ALL Permanently Missable Items/Achievements
Below is a list of items/achievements that can be permanently missed in a playthrough, meaning that if you miss them, then you can no longer get them within this playthrough and must wait for NG+. I hope this helps you avoid missing any items and achievements. Please feel free to add anything in the comments if I've missed anything.
Horse Guai NPC:
There will be a Horse Guai NPC that you can speak to in Chapter 1-5. You need to speak with him in the previous chapter for him to move to the next chapter. You need to make sure that you’ve spoken with the Horse Guai NPC and exhausted his dialogue each chapter, then you can collect the horse transformation after the Keeper of Flaming Mountain boss fight. If you did not speak with the Horse Guai in every location, you will be locked out of his transformation.
Chapter 1:
Wandering Wright: This is the giant head monk statue that you encounter very early on in the game. He will permanently despawn after you defeat Elder Jinchi, which prevents you from getting his spirit and the curio that he drops (there is an achievement for collecting all spirits and all curios).
Chapter 2:
Second Prince of Flowing Sands Spirit: This is a mandatory boss fight, where you face the second prince and his father. You NEED kill the father first if you want the spirit of the Second Prince. Upon killing the father first, the Second Prince will enrage, and will drop his spirit upon death. If you kill the Second Prince first, you will be locked out of this spirit.
Poisestone Spirit: The Poisestone that drops the spirit despawns after defeating the Mother of Stones boss, locking you out of this spirit. Although it is highly unlikely for you to miss this, given that the Poisestone is right in front of the Mother of Stones, so it’s impossible for you to miss Poisestone and kill the Mother of Stones first.
Chapter 3:
Auspicious Lantern: In the Pagoda Realm map, Lantern Wardens will spawn periodically. There is a grand total of NINE Lantern Wardens on the map, and you must defeat each one of them for this curio to drop. You cannot farm the same Lantern Warden nine times; you must kill each individual warden once. Upon defeating Captain Wise-Voice, all Lantern Wardens will despawn, locking you out of this curio.
Apramana Bat Boss/Journal Entry: Apramana Bat is an optional boss located near the North Shore of Bitter Lake. He will permanently despawn after you slide down the long snow slope in the Valley of Ecstasy. You will get his spirit upon defeating Yellowbrow but you will miss out on his journal entry (there is an achievement for unlocking all journal entries). It's unlikely for you to miss this, as Bajie the Pig will ask you to check out his boss arena when you approach it.
Chapter 4:
Fourth Sister Questline: The fourth spider sister has a questline, where you must rip off four runes scattered across the map. There is an achievement related to this questline, as well as the Crane Immortal journal entry. Upon defeating the final boss of this area (Hundred Eyed Daoist Master) this quest locks.
Venomous Armguard: Venom Daoist is an optional boss that unlocks the secret area of Chapter 4 for you. He is a centipede monster that has six arms on his back. You need to break at least four arms in the first encounter, and then defeat him for him to drop this arm armor. You break his arms by hitting him on the back. If you defeat him without breaking at least four arms you are locked out of this arm armor. It is recommended that you switch to a low damage weapon for this boss fight, to avoid killing him before breaking four arms.
Scorpionlord: This is an optional boss in the secret area of Chapter 4, Purple Cloud Mountain. Upon meeting him, he will tell you not to smash the jars of alcohol on the ground near him. You trigger this boss fight by smashing those jars. If you do not kill him before killing Duskveil (final boss of Purple Cloud Mountain) he will despawn permanently, locking you out of an achievement, a gourd, and crafting materials.
Daoist Mi: You meet him as an NPC almost right before the Duskveil boss fight. He has a questline for you, and upon finishing his questline he will turn into a boss. Upon defeating him you get the Violet Hail transformation. His quest locks upon defeating Duskveil.
