Disney has shut down the LucasArts studio. The closure will see both Star Wars 1313 and Star Wars: First Assault cancelled. In addition, the closure of the studio will see many LucasArts’ employees losing their jobs due to Disney’s decision to shift to a licensing-only model going forward.
The move to a licensing-only model will minimize the company’s risk. Disney also thinks that the licensing-only model will result in a larger number of quality Star Wars games, according to Disney’s announcement.

There is no word yet on which publishers and studios Disney will partner with, or what the future may hold for new Star Wars titles. Also, there is no word on the back catalog of titles that LucasArts has compiled over the years.

With the closing, it is estimated that around 150 employees will lose their jobs.
