Therese Johaug (NOR) is the new World Champion on the 10 km FT individual. Johaug snatched the third gold medal from the neck of Marit Bjoergen (NOR) in today's 10 km individual free technique race. Bjørgen had to settle for silver for the first time in these World Championships. Third place went to Yulia Tchekaleva of Russia, who bumped of the podium the biathlete Mirium Goessner of Germany.

Bjørgen had the lead for more than half race but Johaug was able to overtake her on the second lap, reaching the fourth intermediate at 6.8 kilometers 6 seconds faster.

In the end, even the powerful Bjørgen had to surrender to the relentless pace of Johaug, even if she gave everything until the finish line to try conquering her third gold in these World Championships. The final time of Bjørgen was 25:33, twenty-three seconds better than biathlete Miriam Goessner. A few minutes before the arrival of Johaug, it was time for Yulia Tchekaleva (RUS) to close her race, just 0.5 seconds ahead of Goessner.

Then, at 13:50 it was time for Therese Johaug to close her effort, +10.2 seconds ahead of Marit Bjørgen, taking her first World Champion title of these World Championships.

Behind the golden Norwegian duo, the strong Russian and the biathlete Goessner, were strong performances by Elizabeth Stephen (USA) and Heidi Weng (NOR).
