"Does this look like a spider to you? Look again. This is actually a decoy, painstakingly constructed by the true (and much smaller) owner of this web.

Recently discovered in the Peruvian rainforest, this spider (tentatively placed in the genus Cyclosa) is the first species ever observed to exhibit such behaviour. Although several spiders in the genus Cyclosa construct decoys none this elaborate have ever been spotted before.

This seems to be a defence mechanism that serves to confuse or distract predators."
