Martin Bajcicak saved a 5th place in the finish sprint. Petter Northug Jr. from Norway won. Sunny weather and an amazing winter wonderland were nice side effects in todays 42km FIS Marathon skating race at Livigno / Italy. A strong men’s field was filled with many of the popular world cup skiers like Petter Northug, Matti Heikkinen and many more which made today’s race very fast. After a first lap of finding the rhythm, some skiers pushed the speed button and attacked in different uphills. On the women’s side, Ritta Liisa Roponen was skiing alone nearly all of the race. Already in the second uphill she found her own speed and didn’t have any close followers until crossing the finish line with more than a one minute lead ahead of Seraina Boner from Switzerland. “It was my first FIS Marathon today and of course I’m totally satisfied to win it. I had great skis and could go my own speed all over the race” says Roponen. Martin Bajcicak from Slovakia was the only men of the Skinfit Nordic Racing Team who was able to follow a leading group of 8 athletes until the finish line. On the 500m finishing lane, Petter Northug from Norway showed once more his sprint skills and won his first La Sgambeda victory. “I felt really good today and could stay in the group without problems. Of course some skiers forced intensive attacks but I managed to stay in touch with this group and in the end I crossed the line on 5th place. For sure I’m pretty satisfied with this result and hope my shape is getting better more and more” says the Slovakian skier Martin Bajcicak. moar fiscrosscountry worldloppet |
