"This is the Z Machine at Sandia National Laboratories. In 2006, the machine created a plasma that reached a temperature of two BILLION Kelvin, hotter than the interior of stars. This was at the time arguably the hottest human made thing ever.

The Z Machine is used to study the physics of Solar flares and model nuclear explosions. It creates these high temperatures by focusing 20 million amps of electricity into a small region further confined by a magnetic field."
