Bod 4.1 Yallourn Mine Batter Collapse
On the 14 November 2007, the northern batter of the East Field pit of the Yallourn mine collapsed resulting in around six million cubic metres of material shifting 250 metres into the mine pit. As noted by the Mining Warden, “the failure was very large, it encompassed about six million cubic metres of material, was 500 metres long and occurred on a slope that was approximately 80 metres high”.
