The Linux Rocket from Data Design Corporation is a PowerPC computing environment on a pluggable board less than two inches square. This miniature computer includes an IBM Power PC 405 GPr processor with substantial embedded functionality including a PCI bridge and an array of peripherals. Also included are 32 megabytes of flash memory, 64 megabytes of DRAM, Ethernet, and a real time clock with battery backup. The flash memory contains a Linux kernel and flash file system, making the Linux Rocket a complete turn key single board computing environment. The Linux Rocket is offered as a component product to OEM customers interested in integrating PowerPC and Linux technologies into larger systems, while avoiding the complexities and design risks of the of the processor subsystem, and without sacrificing size or power consumption considerations.
