Clear skies! ======================================================================== A DISTURBANCE IN JUPITER'S CLOUDS A new, 40-degree-long, diffuse blue feature is currently visible in an area where Jupiter's South Equatorial Belt and the Equatorial Zone run parallel to each other. The feature's bluish hue is more pronounced when it's near Jupiter's limb but is quite subtle when crossing the planet's central meridian. http://SkyandTelescope.com/observing/objects/planets/article_1195_1.asp ----------------------------------------------------------------------- SKY & TELESCOPE'S HANDY OBSERVING PROGRAMS Think of these five, handy interactive routines from SKY & TELESCOPE as your personal observing assistants. Use them to find the bright moons of Jupiter and Saturn, locate the Great Red Spot, calculate the times of Algol's minimum brightness, and determine which side of Mars you're looking at. http://SkyandTelescope.com/observing/article_1193_1.asp ------------------------------------------------------------------------ OBSERVE SATURN TONIGHT Saturn shines very high in the south during early evening, roughly midway between the bright stars Capella and Procyon. But the ringed planet is getting closer to the Sun with each passing evening, so now's the time to explore Saturn before it disappears into the solar glare in late June. http://SkyandTelescope.com/observing/objects/planets/article_304_1.asp ------------------------------------------------------------------------ SKY AT A GLANCE Jupiter rises in the east at sunset and is visible all night; the Moon is nearby on the 6th.
