61.jpgThe simple campus board, a steep wooden board with horizontal rungs, has long been thought of as a fast track to climbing hard, but the training is so intense that it can easily result in injury.

The BMC have now issued some simple guidelines to help with injury prevention, and make several recommendations aimed at younger climbers.

In a news report on the BMC website Nick Colton states:

"The foremost expert in climbing related injuries in the world, Volker Schoffl from Germany, has taken part in the discussion that has led to the BMC issuing this guidance. He has, additionally, now taken this guidance to the UIAA Medical Commission and they have approved it."

The Campus board was developed by the legendary German climber Wolfgang Güllich in 1988 while he was training for his now famous route Action Directe in the Frankenjura. Training on the board usually involves footless dynamic moves between small wooden rungs.
