Arsene Wenger: Arsenal will not buy any big names despite profit



Arsene Wenger has confirmed title-contenders Arsenal will not be shopping for big-name players in next month's transfer window, despite the club's £56million profit this year.
Wenger's stance in resisting pressure to spend heavily will astonish trophy-starved Arsenal fans. Asked in a TV interview with Al Jazeera why he no longer signed 'big players', he replied: 'Because we respect our budget. You look at the clubs who lose £100m or £150m and if we do that then we go bust. We pay what we can afford.

'I'm amazed that people are amazed that we do that. I think what is surprising is that people don't respect that. 'If I tell you we can win two more points but we lose £150m, what will you say? Win two more points. But I ask a second question: where do we get the £150m in? Maybe you don't have the same answer.'

Arsenal are the only English team still in four competitions and are about to embark on a potential 11 games in 34 days. Striker Nicklas Bendtner has again hinted he could quit the club.
