Typically Spanish reported that the Spanish Footballers Association (AFE) is about to call a strike in all categories of professional football in the country for the weekend of April 16-18.

The dates coincide with the 33rd round of the Primera Liga and Segunda División when Real Madrid should be playing Valencia in the Santiago Bernabéu and Espanyol will host Barcelona in the Catalan derby.

The reason the strike is being called is because of the massive debts which have been accumulated by the football clubs with their players, and reports indicate that the strike call will be supported completely by all the professional players.

That being so it will be the fifth time that footballers have gone on strike in Spain, with the previous occasions being in 1979, 1981, 1982 and 1984. The last strike call in 1997 was called off at the last moment when an agreement was reached between the AFE, LFP and RFEF
