although we are only three months into the new year, brazilian-born, austian-based designer
thomas feichtner has already released 2 one-off design prototypes. feichtner lives and works in linz, austria where he designed his new ‘pixel chair’ and ‘an unbalanced table’, both in polished stainless steel. the ‘pixel chair’ uses metal folding alone to give it structural stability. the chair uses similar processes as automobile manufacturing, only applied to furniture. the design of the chair comes from the structure itself. ‘an unbalanced table’ is also made using metal sheet folding techniques. one side has a large footprint on the ground, well the other end has minimal contact, this asymmetrical design gives the table its name. the folded structured make the table self-supporting, allowing it to be used without a base.
