Espanyol Fan Club Wants Carlos Kameni Expelled ![]() Espanyol’s official fan club have demanded that goalkeeper Carlos Kameni be severely punished for threatening a fan. La Federación de Peñas del Espanyol [Official Espanyol Supporters Club] have moved swiftly upon hearing news that one of their fans was verbally abused and threatened by the team’s first choice goalkeeper, Carlos Kameni. During yesterday’s training session, a member of their supporter’s club known only as David (around 30 years old), allegedly approached the Cameroonian international and yelled at him not to renew his contract with Espanyol. The 24-year-old shot stopper responded by grabbing the fan by his shirt before threatening him: “What… you want to die? I am a professional. Respect my work. Respect me!” The fan club have responded on their website, asking for RCD Espanyol to discipline Kameni and remove him from the team. The official statement read: “We consider that he [Kameni] does not deserve to wear the shirt of Espanyol and we ask that the player be sanctioned with the highest possible punishment the club’s disciplinary code will allow. “He has acted with aggression and therefore, the appropriate penalty must come into effect. “In the past, our supporters have fought to banish any violence from our stadium and Kameni must set a similar example to all, especially to the children. It is intolerable that he commits an outrageous act towards the most important partner of the club, the fans.” Kameni’s current contract will expire on 30 June 2009 whereby he will be able to leave the club for free. He has already been linked with numerous clubs abroad, including Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United in the Premier League. KS Leong, Goal.com |
