Portsmouth manager Tony Adams has confirmed he wants to sign former Arsenal team-mate Patrick Vieira from Internazionale.

Adams hopes to tap into veteran France midfielder Vieira's leadership qualities and is confident he can still do a job for the FA Cup winners in the Premier League.

Adams is also braced for January offers for Fratton Park star Lassana Diarra, so is keen to open talks about the 34-year-old with the San Siro hierarchy.

"He is a definitely a player I would like to bring here if he was available," Adams told the Sunday Mirror. "I will be speaking to Inter manager Jose Mourinho and asking about him.

"With Patrick you know what you are getting - he is a proven winner and great character."
