A new book and exhibition in Tokyo suggests that in Japan — home of some of the world’s densest apartment buildings — the cool of superdense buildings is soaring. Ken Oyama runs a blandly-named Web site, The Housing and Urban Development Corporation.



Tokyo’s Ikejiri Institute of Design is about to open The Great Housing Complex Exhibition, a show of his lavish, fully-frontal photographs of Japanese “danchi” (apartment) blocks. He also has a book out, zippily titled Apartment Building Research.
