ABOUT the topic:

"Rebellion and Spectacle"

This Cool Media Hot Talk Show edition as part of MAFIAfest is about
rebellious art in a moralising and commercial society. Where can we
still find rebels? Wearing a Ch? Gueverra t-shirt is a fashion
statement - not a statement about politics. Creating T-shirts with
Mohammed B would be really showing guts! But many artists worry about
the potential risks connected to work of such nature. MTV claims it
has a rebellious identity, but also reaches its target group. Here
engagement and commerce come together. Where is the fine line between
engagement and profit?
The 'creative industries' actively participate in this strategic
vagueness!

ABOUT the speakers:

Natasja van den Berg is the author of the book "Praktisch
Idealisme" ("Practical Idealism"). She studied political science at
the University of Amsterdam, worked as a programmes coordinator at
the Department of Politics in De Balie - Amsterdam, organised debates
and events on the issues of globalisation and actual politics. She
currently works on the book about entrepreneurship in Africa and
leads public discussions as a freelancer.
