BICYCLE DAY

On April 19, 1943, Albert Hofmann intentionally consumed 0.25 mg the

compound that he had invented, LSD-25, in order to ascertain whether or not it was psychoactive. As the effects came on, he left his laboratory and rode

his bicycle to his home, where he experienced the first ever "acid

trip." This

day has been celebrated for years by psychedelics enthusiasts as

"Bicycle

Day," and this year represents the 60th anniversary of this

momentous

discovery.

To honor this occasion, Rowan Tree Arts will be presenting talks,

slides, music, and film at The Jaguar House. Speakers include Jon Hanna

) and K. Trout

), presenting on

topics including psychedelic art, visionary plants, alternate

realities, and

contemporary counter-culture. The recent documentary by Connie

Littlefield,

*Hofmann's Potion*—describing the early days of LSD research via

interviews

with those elders who were part of the scene—will be shown (see

http://www.nfb.ca/hofmann ). DJ Weedeater

will provide atmospheric sounds

between the presentations, and Apollo's Lute will provide music

afterwards.

Vendors of refreshments, art, t-shirts, legal psychoactive

botanicals, and

information will be present, including Rowan Tree Arts, Om-Chi Herbs,

and the

Mind Books Memorial Bookshop (selling much of the remaining

collection of

books on psychedelics and consciousness collected and offered by our

late

friend and philanthropist Bob Wallace; nearly 200 titles will be

available,

including many which are out-of-print and difficult to obtain).

Doors open at 6:00 pm, talks start at 6:30 pm. There is a suggested

donation

of $5.00 to $10.00 (but no one will be turned away due to lack of

funds). The

Jaguar House is located at 420 S.E. 6th Avenue (6th and Stark) in

Portland,

Oregon. For speaker biographies, presentation descriptions, or other

information (including a map to the venue), see
