2006 Washing Machine, Leather, Saddle
After being invited to take part in an exhibition on the theme of a Bordello, Dominic Wilcox came up with his own take on the subject.
This Leather clad washing machine and saddle aims bring the fun back to housework.
The Orgasmatron 3000 is on display at Habitat, Regent St as part of the Room X exhibition.
18-25 Sept 06.
1996Metal switch, wig tape
An on/off switch is attached to Dominic Wilcox's head.
'The switch was worn day and night for close to a month. I remember after leaving the place where it was done I had to overtake some people on the path. I knew they would see it, so that was a big moment, then after that I relaxed a little. I went into a pub once and ordered a drink. It felt like the music and pool balls came to a stop for a second or so. Then started up again.'
2002 plastic, found objects
This was a 'Platform 8' group project while I was studying at the RCA in London.
The Bloomberg Building in London has four floors. Each floor has a gallery space that we were to fill. An idea emerged to group apparently random objects based solely on their colour or material. This then developed into the possibility of covering the objects in plastic by using a vacuum forming machine. After vac forming, the objects became less distinct, each one blurring into the other. The objects were removed leaving just the plastic.
2002 Boot, rubber
Dominic Wilcox's fingerprint is recreated in a shoe's rubber sole. While walking in rain or through earth a unique print is left behind.
1999 100x150 cm
'This was one of the first objects I made while at college, up until then I'd just worked on flat two dimensional work. The theme of 'the body' seemed to evolve naturally. Not just my body, but also the body of objects. This theme can be seen in 'Bed' where I used my own body as a template for the mattress, but also in Toothbrush Case and Bird Cage.
