China Design Workshop
What will be a European designer's future considering the rapidly developing markets in China?
The new opportunities arising for Western designers from the developments in China were the focus of this year's CHINA DESIGN project. This interdisciplinary student project involving 18 students from various areas of study – industrial design, textile design, communication design, fine arts and psychology – was hosted by the Kunsthochschule Berlin-Weissensee (KHB) industrial design department during the 2006 summer semester. KHB students cooperated with their peers in Taiwan and China, jointly exploring the different "flavors" of Chinese culture in these two countries.
The travel portion of this project was concluded with a visit to our partner university in Hong Kong, along with additional research in Hong Kong and its surrounding islands and territories. Two workshops – in Taipei and Guangzhou – helped KHB students to establish meaningful design projects based on various aspects of Chinese culture which were subsequently completed upon our return to Germany. This website introduces our concepts and provides additional information about our work and travel. It might also be of interest to those among our visitors who wish to learn more about Chinese culture and Design.
