A couple of years ago (1999-2001), I created a monolithic Unix-like kernel called Yoctix. It was not a complete operating system, only a kernel to be used with an already existing userland. I created Yoctix for myself in my spare time, mostly for the learning experience and to see if I could do it. Some important parts that one expects to be found in a "real" kernel weren't implemented at all (networking and support for swapping out pages to disk). Some things were only partially implemented (filesystem write support, pipes, signals), so in its current form, the kernel cannot be used for everyday tasks.
