Bola raz taka teoria ,ktorej verilo niekolko jedincov v polovici 90ych rokov ,ze za chvilku zahodime klavesnice, mysi a namiesto monitora budeme mat okuliare alebo helmu ,ktora nas prenesie ciastocne do virtualnej reality. kazdy veril ,ze do roku 2000 si to kupi domov ,a ze za chvilku budeme si uzivat virtualny priestor hlbsie ,ked si nim zalepime oci a usi . a na rukach rukavice na ovladanie priestoru a pripadne aj nejake kruhy na rotaciu simulujucu pohyb v priestore (lietanie). oblek ,ktory tlakovo posobi na telo ,cim prenasa hmat z VR na hmatove snimace (receptory) nasho tela.
super!!! je rok 2005 a stalo sa hovno ?!

ak mate pocit ,ze ste owners nejakeho VR hardveru a pripadne 3D systemu ,ktory je pripraveny na VR periferie , mozte to supnut sem.

ps: posledne co som hral koncom 90ych rokov bol Descent a Doom1,2 s helmou VFX (neviem ci tam bolo este nejake cislo alebo co) a potom som este skusal (iGlasses?) 3D brylkz ,na ktorych som hral Heretic ,Hexen a aj to predosle.
Co bolo po tychto strojoch na scene ? ani srnka netusi :(

Rád by som sa podelil o moje skúsenosti s VR.

Pred nejakým pol rokom sa mi dostalo do rúk VR "Pico 4 Enterprise". Keďže ide o verziu pre firmy, nebol tam prístup k obchodu s hrami, ale iba k nejakému business shop, kde neboli žiadne hry. Použil som ho teda aspoň ako PCVR. Prekvapilo ma, že doba pokročila a už to netreba mať pripojené káblom ani mať nejaké externé senzory. Aj cez Wi-Fi má veľmi peknú odozvu. Každopádne, zahral som si na tom HL: Alyx cez PC a potom som to na pár mesiacov odložil, pretože VR hry na Steame sú celkom drahé a zvyčajne nebývajú v zľave.

Po pár mesiacoch som vďaka Redditu a Pico node narazil na https://www.reddit.com/r/PicoPiracy/ a tam na fórum, kde sa rieši portovanie hier z Quest 3 na Pico. A už som v tom bol! Zistil som, že Pico veľmi jednoducho podporuje inštaláciu externých APK, a tak je až príliš ľahké pirátiť hry. Po približne 15 rokoch, keď som všetko poctivo nakupoval na Steame, som si znovu nasadil pirátsky klobúk a od novembra som na tom prešiel už asi 20 hier, a je to super :-)

Aktuálne hrám toto a je to geniálne:

A tak som sa vlastne, ako slepý k husliam, dostal k standalone VR headsetu a zistil som, že to v súčasnosti funguje ako samostatná herná konzola. Vlastne nepotrebujem nič extra, aby som si zahral.

Takže ak hľadáte lacné standalone VR okuliare, funguje to na:

Snažím sa rozbehať HTC Vive + Ubuntu 18.10 + natívny SteamVR, držte mi palce :)
Popravde je to boj, nič nejde out-of-the box, tak ako píšu na https://github.com/ValveSoftware/SteamVR-for-Linux/ tak treba preinštalovať grafické prípadne aj USB drivery a podobne...

Je to boj, ale aspoň keď spustím SteamVr cez sudo tak sa dostanem do "mojej izby" kde mi funguje VR-ko aj s ovládačmi, ale hry zatiaľ nejdú.

Avšak viaceré hry majú dobré ratingy na ProtonDb, som zvedavý na Skyrim VR https://www.protondb.com/app/611670 a Doom VFR https://www.protondb.com/app/650000 . Fungovať to musí, keď tak už ľudia hrávajú. A dúfam že aj Quake VR :-)

NVIDIA CEO Jen-Hsun Huang just offered the first public unveiling of a product based on the company's next generation GPU architecture, codenamed Volta. NVIDIA just announced its new Tesla V100 accelerator that's designed for AI and machine learning applications, and at the heart of the Tesla V100 is NVIDIA's Volta GV100 GPU. The chip features a 21.1 billion transistors on a die that measures 815mm2 (compared to 12 billion transistors and 610mm2 respectively for the previous gen Pascal GP100). The GV100 is built on a 12nm FinFET manufacturing process by TSMC. It is comprised of 5,120 CUDA cores with a boost clock of 1455MHz, compared to 3585 CUDA cores for the GeForce GTX 1080 Ti and previous gen Tesla P100 AI accelerator, for example. The new Volta GPU delivers 15 TFLOPS FP32 compute performance and 7.5 TFLOPS of FP64 compute performance. Also on board is 16MB of cache and 16GB of second generation High Bandwidth (HBM2) memory with 900GB/sec of bandwidth via a 4096-bit interface. The GV100 also has dedicated Tensor cores (640 in total) accelerating AI workloads. NVIDIA notes the dedicated Tensor cores also allow for a 12x uplift in deep learning performance compared to Pascal, which relies solely on its CUDA cores. Four years ago, Google was faced with a conundrum: if all its users hit its voice recognition services for three minutes a day, the company would need to double the number of data centers just to handle all of the requests to the machine learning system powering those services, reads a PCWorld article, which talks about how Tensor Processing Unit (TPU), a chip that is designed to accelerate the inference stage of deep neural networks came into being. The article shares an update:
Google published a paper on Wednesday laying out the performance gains the company saw over comparable CPUs and GPUs, both in terms of raw power and the performance per watt of power consumed. A TPU was on average 15 to 30 times faster at the machine learning inference tasks tested than a comparable server-class Intel Haswell CPU or Nvidia K80 GPU. Importantly, the performance per watt of the TPU was 25 to 80 times better than what Google found with the CPU and GPU.

Microsoft's big push into mixed reality involves headsets from multiple manufacturers (including ASUS, Dell, HP, Lenovo), and developer kits with Acer's headset will begin a phased rollout this month. 3d interfaces, volumetric interfaces, their future3D is the future of computer interfaces. What existing and future hardware and software will support three-dimensional human-computer interfaces? When will volumetric displays become available? Can we agree on some nomenclature to differentiate the projection of three-dimensional data on a two-dimensional plane, compared with actual 3-D (x, y and z) data input and output? How will the third dimension be extended to television and games?

You can see some cool ideas and animated presentations about 3D Information Visualization from Microsoft Research at http://dcr1.sts.winisp.net/Lists/Prototypes/AllItems.aspx, including the Polyarchy Heirarchy browser, the Multi-Plane Task Layout, Window Peeking and the DataMountain project. Having a large monitor, or dual monitors, will definitely help as you watch some of these presentations. Longhorn, the next version of Microsoft Windows, will have some sort of 3-D built in, which will require more powerful video cards than most present-day computers have.

Apple has not been left behind, with Fast User Switching being included in OS X.
