Britney Spears' new baby may have Madonna as his or her godmother, it has been claimed.

The singer has reportedly become very close with the mother of two, and earlier this year it was claimed that she asked Madonna to become godmother to her firstborn, even though she wasn't pregnant at the time.

According to Female First, the 23-year-old star was so thrilled at Madonna accepting the offer, she gave her a diamond-encrusted Cartier watch to say thank you.

Confirming pregnancy rumours in a statement on her website last week, it is thought that Britney went straight to the Material Girl for advice on her first pregnancy.

"When Britney found out she was expecting one of the first things she did was phone Madonna," said a source. "Madonna has been sending books and offering advice about pregnancy to Britney almost daily."

Britney, who is married to Kevin Federline, became close to Madonna after the star introduced her to the Jewish faith over a year ago. As an engagement present prior to her wedding to Federline, Madonna is thought to have given her a 900-year-old Kabbalah book worth thousands.
