High pass
Clearing snow on the Ak Baital, or White Mare, Pass. This pass north of Murghab stands at nearly 4700m and is one of five major mountain passes on the rugged Pamir Highway snaking through the region.

Only two roads link the Pamirs region to the outside world, so winter can be a difficult time, when winds and snow can block the road for days.
