Doctor and Secretary of the Archaeological Institute of Mongolian Academy of Sciences B. Tsogtbaatar has announced, “…we uncovered the ruins of the worshipping place of Chinggis Khaan where the spirits of the Emperors, heirs of Chinggis Khaan, were worshipped. The worshipsite was in the same area where the Great Palace was located. But we cannot deny this place could also be the grave and tomb of Chinggis Khaan. Broadcasts by some media that the grave and tomb of Chinggis Khaan have been uncovered, are wrong.” He said, “No substantial steps have been made in the digging and research related to the history of Chinggis Khaan. Although some research work has now begun in Kharkhorin together with German archaeologists. There are dozens more memorial sites that warrant further investigation. It will take time, therefore we need to analyze some items based on historical sources. About the preservation of the basis of Chinggis Khaan’s Aurag, we are also paying attention to the possibility of registering it in UNESCO’s world heritage list.”
